Care, support and guidance is undoubtedly a strong feature of Post 16 at Macmillan.

Post 16 is a very supportive and nurturing community. The care, guidance and support all our students receive is a stand out feature of Post 16. We believe that by respecting and valuing all members of our sixth form community and by providing the right balance of challenge and support, everyone can achieve and be successful. We regularly review progress against expectations and ensure strategies are put in place to support students who fall behind. The Post 16 and tutor teams will monitor academic attainment and ensure that appropriate interventions are made. Your tutor will be able to assist with any issues on a daily basis and further support is provided by designated staff such as our careers practitioner, learning mentors, SEN department or the Post 16 team.

MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING

Mental health is fundamental to the overall wellbeing of all our students in Post 16. Young people with us go through significant changes in their social, emotional, and cognitive development, which can impact their mental health. It is important for them to understand this and seek support when needed. Taking steps towards this such as engaging in regular exercise, maintaining a good diet and sleep routine as well as taking time to relax and seek support when needed can help students’ health and develop strong coping strategies. Post 16 puts on a range of events throughout the year to raise awareness and support students’ mental health through briefings, personal development time, MAC talks and workshops. Additionally we work with organisations such as MIND and Headstart to support students who are struggling.
