The transition from sixth form to university can be a daunting experience for students. At Post 16 we pride ourselves on the strong partnerships we have established with various universities, creating a supportive environment that empowers our students to excel in their academic journeys.

Tailored Guidance and Support

Our Post 16 Pastoral Team work closely with university admissions teams to ensure that our students receive tailored advice on course selection, application processes and interview preparations.  This collaboration allows us to host workshops and seminars featuring university representatives, giving students first hand insights into what different institutions offer and what they seek in potential candidates.

University Partnerships

Our strong university partnerships have opened numerous doors for students. Through exclusive access to university-led events, such as taster sessions and summer schools, our students can experience university life before making their final decisions.

We also regularly organise visits to various university Open Days. These trips are not just about exploring campuses; they provide students with the chance to engage with current undergraduates, attend lectures, and experience university life.  The partnership with universities also extends beyond application support. Many of our sixth form students have benefitted from collaborative academic programmes.  These initiatives include joint research projects, guest lectures from university faculties, and mentoring opportunities.

Post 16 students at Macmillan Academy currently benefit from the following university partnerships:

The Elephant Group

Durham University – Supported Progression Scheme

Leeds University – Access to Leeds/Leeds Futures

Newcastle University – PARTNERS Supported Entry Scheme

Teesside University

The Elephant Group

The Sutton Trust Pathways Programme

York University – Next Step York

The excellent relationship and partnership Post 16 have with universities is key in shaping our students’ futures. Through tailored support, enriching opportunities, and a commitment to academic excellence, we ensure that our students are not only prepared for university but also excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
