COURSE Overview
Philosophy, Ethics and Religion is all about tackling and trying to answer those BIG questions we have in life, such as: Can we ever prove that God exists? Can we use nuclear weapons in war? Should we be able to experiment on animals for human advancement? Are we really free?
You will examine the nature of religion including God, sources of wisdom and authority and how feminism impacts Christianity in a modern world. You will also study ethical theories and philosophical approaches to solving dilemmas. If you enjoy reading, writing and debating about important matters, you will find Philsophy, Ethics and Religious studies fascinating!

Entry Requirements: Standard entry requirements. A GCSE in religious studies will give a useful background although it is not a compulsory requirement.
Course Length: 2 Years
In the Philosophy unit we cover some of the biggest questions humanity has tried to answer. The constant debate about if there is ever an acceptable reason to reject or accept God has consumed atheists and theists for centuries. In philosophy we look at some of the best arguments philosophers have used to give proof of God’s existence and the counter-arguments to disprove God.
In Ethics we will use different ethical theories and apply them to contemporary moral issues relating to humans and animals, such as abortion, euthanasia and vivisection. Ethics is a benefit no matter what field you choose to go in, as you are looking at morality and how humans interact with others and other creatures.
In Christianity you will look at the different denominations of Christians and how they approach their faith and problems that Christianity might face. Christianity looks at a range of topics including views on homosexuality, transgender, animals rights, war and secularisation and the challenges it brings to the faith.
This is a two year course with all exams taking place at the end of Year 13.

Religious studies can be a useful subject for a wide range of jobs, especially those that require you to work with the public, or involve helping people. Religious studies students have continued on to successful careers in many fields, including law, education, business, medicine, social work, administration and the media.
