COURSE Overview
The Advance course is our Level 2 course which enables students to study for a year to gain the qualifications needed to progress onto Level 3 courses. It is a multi-faceted programme of study whereby students have the opportunity to re-sit their Maths and English GCSE with specialist teaching and targeted support included. Students will also complete 2 further Level 2 qualifications – BTEC Award in Public Services and Prince’s Trust Award in Personal Development and Employability Skills. The BTEC Public Services qualification centres around the role, work and skills of individuals who work in public services and who are vital to our everyday life. It looks in depth at the skills, qualities and characteristics of individuals who work in all public services and students learn about the requirements of specific job roles. The Prince’s Trust Award in Personal Development and Employability Skills enables students to enhance their existing skills and develop them further in order to progress onto the next stage of their education or into employment. Students will cover topics such as Community Impact, Health and Fitness, Career Planning, Digital Skills, Project Based Learning and Presentation Skills.

The Advance Course is a one year course with both examination and coursework components.
- BTEC Award in Public Services – coursework and examination in January or June
- Prince’s Trust Award in Personal Development and Employability Skills – coursework
- GCSE maths re-sit (if required) – examination in November or June
- GCSE English re-sit (if required) – examination in November or June
The purpose of the Advance course is to enable students to gain enough qualifications to meet the entry requirements to enrol onto Level 3 courses in #Macmillan Post 16 or go onto an apprenticeship or another provider.
It is a transition year which offers students the opportunity to develop their skills and re-sit subjects they may not have achieved a grade 4 in. All students will get the support they need throughout and at the end of the academic year to make the transition.
