COURSE Overview

The Advance course is our Level 2 course which enables students to study for a year to gain the qualifications needed to progress onto Level 3 courses. It is a multi-faceted programme of study whereby students have the opportunity to re-sit their Maths and English GCSE with specialist teaching and targeted support included. Students will also complete 2 further Level 2 qualifications – BTEC Award in Public Services and Prince’s Trust Award in Personal Development and Employability Skills. The BTEC Public Services qualification centres around the role, work and skills of individuals who work in public services and who are vital to our everyday life. It looks in depth at the skills, qualities and characteristics of individuals who work in all public services and students learn about the requirements of specific job roles. The Prince’s Trust Award in Personal Development and Employability Skills enables students to enhance their existing skills and develop them further in order to progress onto the next stage of their education or into employment. Students will cover topics such as Community Impact, Health and Fitness, Career Planning, Digital Skills, Project Based Learning and Presentation Skills.

“The Advance course is the right course for me. I didn’t get the grades at GCSE to study at Level 3 but this have given me the chance to focus, get what I needed and then progress onto the BTEC courses at Macmillan in a year. I am with my friends, in the place where I wanted to be – it was the right decision.”
